An increase in body temperature from exercise, travelling or hot weather causes horses to sweat. While this evaporation helps regulate body temperature, it results in significant fluid and electrolyte loss—including sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium and magnesium—all essential for muscle contraction, nervous system function and cellular fluid balance.

A horse in moderate work can lose 5–7 litres of fluid and 50–70g of electrolytes in just one hour. Hard-working horses, especially in warm or humid conditions, lose considerably more. Although most forages contain potassium in abundance, sodium and chloride are found at much lower levels. Standard compound feeds may not provide enough to meet the demands of working horses, making supplemental electrolytes vital for recovery and sustained performance.

Apple Lytes Solution has a balanced ratio of sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and magnesium, designed at optimum concentrations to promote fluid intake and restore losses. Its low sugar content makes it suitable for all horses and ponies, whilst the highly palatable apple and cherry flavour mixes easily into feed—even fussy feeders readily accept it.

Equine America manufactures to strict feed safety codes and is BETA NOPS and UFAS accredited, meaning Apple Lytes Solution meets FEI regulations and Rules of Racing standards, significantly reducing the risk of prohibited substances. Also available in paste and powder forms.

Always ensure clean, fresh water is available.
