  • Turtle Top Bevel Ring Bit
  • Ideal for Over-Active Mouths
  • Helps Prevent Sideways Tongue Evasion
  • To Achieve a Soft Consistent Contact
  • 16mm Mouthpiece
  • 70cm Bevel Rings

The Neue Schule Turtle Top Loose Ring Bit with FlexZ is an anatomical inspired double jointed bit design with enhanced mouthpiece stability, through optimized alignment of the mouthpiece surfaces to the tongue and palate.

This innovation is brilliant for the over-active busy mouth that chomps and chews on the mouthpiece. Turtle Top with Flex keeps the mouthpiece centered and arched over the tongue at all times, safely helping to prevent sideways tongue evasions. This comfortable mouthpiece re-focuses the inattentive mouth back onto the rein aids in order to achieve a soft consistent contact.

The Turtle Top link shape takes inspiration from the shell of the Box turtle. This flattened dome shaped link lowers palate pressure and prevents the cannons from being pushed upwards above the link by the horses tongue.

The Neue Schule Flex design concept delivers a guaranteed and well controlled co-alignment of the surfaces of the mouthpiece with the sensitive surfaces of the equine mouth.

FlexZ is a development of our popular Tranz range. Gently curved cannons form a wide arch aligned over the tongue and held in shape by Turtle Top. FlexZ is therefore more securely centered on the tongue and more resistant to being pulled through the mouth.

The Beval ring gives rein and cheekpiece attachment options in a neat package but whatever option you choose the mouthpiece remains in constant relative alignment to the tongue.

Neue Schule Turtle Top Beval Ring - 16mm/70mm Size Guide

How to Measure Your Bit

It is important to ensure you choose the right sized bit for your horse. A bit that’s too-small can pinch and cause rubs on the tongue or cheeks, and a bits that’s too-big can slide around in the mouth and be less effective.

Bits are measured from inside corner to inside corner, across the length of the horse’s mouth. The easiest way to find the correct size bit for your horse is to measure a bit you already have that you know fits well. To measure the size of the bit, simply measure the length of the mouthpiece only, excluding the rings or shanks. This measurement (in mm or inches) corresponds to the size of bit you require.

Standard horse size bitss include 5”, 5 ¼”, and 5 ½” (130mm, 135mm, 140mm.) Pony bits can run as small as 3”, and draft horses be as large as 7”.

What does a well fitting bit look like?

For snaffle bits, you should see 1-2 wrinkles at the corner of the mouth and tension on the cheek pieces without solid pressure. You won’t see any wrinkles for curb bits, but the bit should be resting against the corners of the horse’s mouth and should not be low enough to touch or bang on the teeth.
